We've ordered our first three new windows, from a local company (Mellot's Joinery). I had a number of frustrating phone conversations with window companies who couldn't seem to understand that I was capable of measuring my own window openings and didn't want them to send a sales rep out (we went down that route in one of our previous houses and had to practically set the dogs on one to get rid of him!). Eventually we found this company who so far have been extremely straightforward and easy to deal with and are very happy for us to supply our own measurements and do our own fitting. Plus they are local enough that we can pick up the windows as and when we need them, even individually if we want, which is a big bonus.
I haven't posted for a while as I've been so busy getting back in to the swing of working full time, but I wanted to put up this picture. Brian has just lime plastered the new block walls and you can really see how the smooth, matt areas will frame the stonework, especially around the fireplace. I'm really pleased with how it is looking. Brian has been busy on the walls and floors, you can see in the picture that most of the stone walls are now tidied up and pointed. The main room floor in the kitchen area (behind where this photo was taken) has been dug up and re-laid with a flat and level floor, probably more than half the total floor area is now finished. He has also made the drainage hole through the old wall ready for the kitchen sink, you really get a feel for how thick the walls are when you see a huge long drill bit disappearing inside. Freya had fun playing with all the core
