Just a quick message to say Happy Christmas to everyone whose still keeping track of us! I've just come back from Freya's nativity play, where as you can see above she was the angel and had a great time including meeting Santa. I was once again reminded how small a world it is around here when I met the mother of one of Freya's favourite classmates and discovered she is another who calls our house the family home, she still remembers spending Christmas here as a small child.

Proof that it is always worth trawling the web for bargains!
We'd been looking for a vertical radiator for the hall for some time. We had fairly tight size and heat output requirements, and were struggling to find anything under €500. We even bought one online for around €350 that would have just about done, but it arrived damaged and had to be returned. Then one evening Brian saw this one for sale on bestheating.ie, perfect size, style etc. for just over €15 including P&P! Obviously we assumed it was a scam, but I researched the company and they seemed genuine, plus they took Paypal, so we decided to give it a go though we didn't really expect it to work out. We had a bit of trouble with the delivery (which didn't exactly re-assure us) but it turned up in the end and was fine. Still not sure exactly why or how, it is back up to €370 on bestheating.ie now. It was well packaged and delivered from the UK so pretty sure we didn't even pay full whack for the P&P. We've been focussing on the main room for the last month, trying to make sure it is fully usable in time for Christmas, and it is! It now has flooring, finished walls, doors, a plastered and insulated ceiling, lights, sockets and furniture. As of today it also has a Christmas tree. The only thing missing to complete the room is replacing the front windows, which can't be done until the outside of the front wall is done. In the meantime Brian has sealed them up with home-made "secondary glazing" so we are all insulated and snug. I'm itching to fit the kitchen now, but we need to hang on until the bathroom is further on as we will need to move the bath into the kitchen area (plumbed into the kitchen sink plumbing) for some of the bathroom work. We have moved some things into the kitchen area though, including the fridge and our new egg house, which the hens are keeping very well supplied. |
