Okay, so that is just Freya ready for her pre-school Halloween party, but these last couple of weeks we seem to have been visited by our own set of plagues. We've had invasions by mice (3 caught so far) and frogs. A blocked sewer pipe led to Brian battling the elements to deal with a very unpleasant leak. Meanwhile Ronny decided to eat a tennis ball and throw up all over the one room we live in. Finally on Monday night we had a serious gale that sadly signaled the end for the tent. It had been unwell for a while, I suspect too much UV exposure had weakened the already not-young fabric as it kept tearing, and it was clear early on it wouldn't survive the forecast winds so we had to take it down. |
In between battling these various crises, Brian has been getting on with repairing the fireplace, removing the internal render and cleaning up the wall tops. A better understanding of the structure has given us the impetus for a complete re-think on our intended layout for the house which has us quite excited. We're now planning to knock down two of the thin poured concrete internal walls to create a large Kitchen / Living Room in the centre of the house. We've also re-designed the layout of the remaining rooms to allow us to stop up a number of the doorways into the main room and create even more space in there. Brian's already knocked down a bit of one of the internal walls so we can visualise it better. |
